Redact PDF.
Permanently black out text, numbers and areas in a PDF. Search words or patterns, review the boxes, and verify nothing remains.
20 MiB · up to 200 pages · processed in your browser, never uploaded. Each page with a box is rebuilt from pixels, so the hidden text, images and vectors are really deleted, not just covered. Pages without boxes stay unchanged.
How to use Redact PDF
Choose a PDF, search for names, emails, phone or account numbers, or draw boxes by hand. Review each page, choose the output quality, then apply the redaction and download the verified PDF.
How it works
Every page that has a box is rendered in your browser, the boxes are painted into the pixels and the page is rebuilt as a single image, so the covered text, images and vectors are deleted rather than hidden. Pages without boxes are copied unchanged. Title, author, subject and XMP metadata are removed by default; bookmarks, attachments and digital signatures are never carried over. After export the file is re-read: the tool confirms that no selectable text is left on redacted pages and lists any page where your search terms still appear.
Example
Remove a name, an email address and an IBAN from a two-page statement before sharing it.
Questions about Redact PDF
Is Redact PDF free, and do I need an account?
Yes. This tool is free to use in your browser without an account. Processing takes place on your device.
What are the limits and what should I check?
20 MiB, 200 pages and 2,000 boxes. Search uses the embedded text layer: scanned pages need manual boxes or OCR PDF first. Redacted pages become images (110–300 DPI), so their remaining text is not selectable; links, form fields and comments on those pages are flattened. Review the downloaded document, especially page order and watermarks.
Is my input sent to a server?
Your input is processed in your browser and is not uploaded by this tool. Files and pasted text are cleared when the page is refreshed. Normal website requests are still required to load the page and its libraries. Read the privacy explanation.
