Clicks are scheduled ahead on the Web Audio clock (not timers), so the beat stays steady even when the page is busy; in a background tab it schedules further ahead. Tap tempo averages the last eight taps.
At 120 BPM in 4/4 each beat lasts 0.5 s and a bar 2 s; tapping four times half a second apart sets 120 BPM.
