White noise has equal energy at every frequency (a hiss); pink noise drops 3 dB per octave (like rain); brown noise drops 6 dB per octave (a deep rumble, like a waterfall). Many people use them to mask distractions or to fall asleep; keep the volume moderate, especially for babies, and do not rely on it as a medical treatment.

How it works
Noise is synthesised in the browser: white from random samples, pink with Paul Kellet’s filter (−3 dB per octave), brown by integrating white noise (−6 dB per octave), looped with a cross-fade.

Brown noise with a 30-minute timer plays a deep rumble and fades out after half an hour.
