How to use Background Remover
Choose, drop or paste an image. Solid backgrounds are removed automatically; for other photos a first cutout is made from a box around the subject. Switch to People (AI) for portraits or Click object (AI) to select items, paint Keep or Erase to correct details, adjust the edges, choose a transparent, colour, blurred or image background and download.
How it works
Four methods. Solid colour removes the edge colour or clicked colours by CIELAB distance, either connected to the borders and clicks or everywhere, with colour-fringe removal on semi-transparent edges. Box select runs GrabCut (Gaussian colour models and a Boykov–Kolmogorov minimum cut) in a local worker and recalculates with your Keep and Erase strokes. People uses the MediaPipe Selfie Multiclass model and Click object uses MediaPipe MagicTouch, both Apache 2.0, running with WebAssembly in the browser; several clicks select several objects. Edge tools: guided-filter refinement, speck removal, shrink or grow and softening. Export PNG or WebP with transparency, or JPG; crop to the subject with a margin; replace the background with a colour, a blurred copy of the photo or your own image; copy a PNG to the clipboard. Undo keeps the last 25 changes. Images are never uploaded.

What are the limits and what should I check?
JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF (first frame) or AVIF; up to 30 MiB and 60 megapixels; output up to 16 megapixels (larger images are reduced). Masks are computed on a preview of up to 1,024 px and refined to full resolution with a guided filter, so fine hair, fur, glass, smoke and subjects coloured like their background need manual correction. The people model targets front-facing people; distant or very small subjects are approximate. The AI models download about 28 MB (people) or 18 MB (objects) once from this site; Solid colour and Box select need no model. Review image dimensions, transparency and quality before downloading.
Is my input sent to a server?
Your input is processed in your browser and is not uploaded by this tool. Files and pasted text are cleared when the page is refreshed. Normal website requests are still required to load the page and its libraries. Read the privacy explanation.
