How to use RAR Extractor (Open RAR Files)

How it works

RAR 4 and RAR 5 archives are read by libarchive (BSD licence) compiled to WebAssembly, through libarchive.js (MIT), in a background worker. Files are extracted one at a time, so a large archive can be browsed without unpacking it all.

A RAR5 archive with a folder of documents opens as a file list; Download all as ZIP turns it into a ZIP that every computer can open.

Open a RAR file and extract it

Drop the RAR file on the page, or press Choose a file.
The list shows every file with its folder and size. Type in Filter files… to find one quickly.
Click a file name to preview text files and images; press ⬇ to download that file alone.
Press Download all as ZIP to get one ZIP file, or Extract all to a folder… in Chrome or Edge to write the files directly to a folder you choose.

You do not need WinRAR. The archive is read by libarchive compiled to WebAssembly, in a background worker of your browser: the file is never uploaded, and only the files you open are unpacked.

Supported files and limits

RAR 4 and RAR 5 archives are supported. Password-protected RAR files and split archives (.part1.rar, .r00) cannot be opened here: use the program that created them.

Archives up to 500 MB with up to 10,000 files and 2 GB unpacked; ZIP download up to 1 GB unpacked. Download all as ZIP also converts the archive: ZIP files open on every computer and phone without extra software.

To make an archive instead, use the ZIP Creator; to open a ZIP file, use the ZIP Extractor.

Is my RAR file uploaded?

No. The archive is read in your browser and stays on your device.

Can I open a password-protected RAR file?

No. The engine used here cannot decrypt RAR or 7z archives; the file list may appear, but extraction stops with an error. Extract it with the program that created it.

How do I convert a RAR file to ZIP?

Open it and press Download all as ZIP. The files are repacked into a standard ZIP, with folders kept.

Is RAR Extractor (Open RAR Files) free, and do I need an account?

What are the limits and what should I check?
