  • Headers: IP 20 (IPv6 40) + UDP 8 + RTP 12 bytes per packet; cRTP shrinks them to about 2 bytes on a link-by-link basis.
  • G.711 at 20 ms over Ethernet gives the classic 87.2 kbps per call per direction.
  • Voice is commonly kept to about a third of a link in a priority queue, leaving room for signalling and data.

Technische Hinweise auf Englisch

Signalling (SIP), RTCP and silence suppression are not included. VPN overhead covers IPsec ESP with AES-GCM and WireGuard over IPv4. Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing is sent or probed on the network.

Payload = codec bitrate × packet interval. Each packet adds IP, UDP and RTP headers (40 bytes, or about 2 with cRTP) plus link-layer bytes; bandwidth = packet size × packets per second.

G.711 at 20 ms over Ethernet needs 87.2 kbps per call per direction; 30 calls need 2.62 Mbps each way.
