An estimate, not a certified sound level meter: phone and laptop microphones and their automatic processing vary a lot. Calibrate by adjusting the offset until the reading matches a real meter. The sound is analysed in your browser and never recorded or sent.

How to use Sound Level Meter (Decibels)

Press “Start microphone” and allow access. Adjust the offset to match a real sound level meter if you have one.

How it works

The microphone signal is analysed in the browser: the RMS level in dB relative to full scale plus the calibration offset; echo cancellation and automatic gain are turned off when possible.

Example

A quiet office reads around 40–50 dB and a busy street 70–80 dB after calibration.
