Microphone Test.

Check that your microphone works with a live level meter, waveform, clipping warning and a 5-second playback clip.

Limits & supported formats

Requires microphone permission and a secure (HTTPS) page. Levels are relative digital dBFS values, not calibrated sound pressure. The playback clip stays in this page and is discarded when you leave. Device names appear only after permission.

Microphone test

Click Start, allow microphone access and speak normally. The meter should follow your voice. Everything runs in this page. Nothing is uploaded, and the device is released when you stop or leave.

-60 dB-300 dBFS

How to use Microphone Test

Click Start test, allow microphone access and speak normally. Watch the level meter, pick another input if several are listed, then record a 5-second clip to hear how you sound.

How it works

The Web Audio API analyses the live signal locally to compute RMS level and peak in dBFS. Browser voice processing (echo cancellation, noise suppression, automatic gain) can be switched off to hear the raw input. Nothing is uploaded; the stream stops when you click Stop or leave the page.

Example

Speaking at a normal distance typically peaks between −30 and −6 dBFS; a clipping warning means the input gain is too high.
