The browser draws in step with the screen, so the time between animation frames gives the refresh rate. Battery saving, a busy computer or a background tab can lower it; on multi-monitor setups the window’s screen counts. Variable refresh (VRR) screens may show the current rate rather than the maximum.
How to use Screen Refresh Rate Test (Hz)
Open the page on the screen you want to test and wait a second. Press “Measure again” after changing a setting.
How it works
Browsers draw animation frames in step with the display; the median time between frames gives the rate, snapped to common values when within 4 %.
Example
A gaming monitor set to 144 Hz shows 144 Hz with a frame time of 6.94 ms.
