- Power uses watts as entered; measured draw is usually well below nameplate. Three-phase power assumes balanced phases and unity power factor.
- Electrical codes differ by country (continuous-load derating, breaker types). Have the final design checked by a qualified electrician.
How to use Server Rack Planner
List equipment with quantity, height, watts and weight, then pick the rack height, reserve, power feed and breaker.
How it works
Racks = total U ÷ usable U per rack (and weight ÷ rating); circuit capacity = voltage × current × derating (× √3 for three phase); heat = watts × 3.412 BTU/h.
Example
28 devices filling 39 U in 42U racks with 20 % reserve need 2 racks of 4.3 kW each, two 16 A circuits per feed (A + B) and about 29,500 BTU/h of cooling.
Questions about Server Rack Planner
Is Server Rack Planner free, and do I need an account?
Yes. This tool is free to use in your browser without an account. Processing takes place on your device.
What are the limits and what should I check?
Watts as entered; electrical codes differ by country and final designs need a qualified electrician. Weight uses the rack’s static rating. Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing is sent or probed on the network. Review the result before using it in your work.
Is my input sent to a server?
