Section Properties Calculator.
Calculate area, centroid, second moment of area and section modulus for a rectangle, circle, pipe or I-section.
Sections are symmetric. An I-section is built from flange width, overall height, flange thickness and web thickness. No capacity or buckling check. Local arithmetic only. This is a quantity or geometry estimate, not a code check and not a substitute for a licensed professional.
- Area
- 0.08 m²
- Strong-axis I
- 0.001067 m⁴
- Weak-axis I
- 0.000267 m⁴
- Strong-axis modulus
- 0.005333 m³
- Centroid depth
- 0.2 m
Values are about the centroid of a symmetric section. Rectangle I uses width × height³ / 12 on the strong axis. A circle uses πd⁴ / 64. An I-section subtracts the side voids from the enclosing rectangle. This is geometry, not a member-capacity check.
How to use Section Properties Calculator
Choose the section, enter its dimensions in one length unit and read I and the section modulus in that unit.
How it works
Calculate area, centroid, second moment of area and section modulus for a rectangle, circle, pipe or I-section. Sections are symmetric. An I-section is built from flange width, overall height, flange thickness and web thickness. No capacity or buckling check. Local arithmetic only. This is a quantity or geometry estimate, not a code check and not a substitute for a licensed professional.
Example
A 200 mm × 400 mm rectangle, entered in metres as 0.2 × 0.4.
